Red Hot Chili Peppers to finally 'give it away now' in Israel

The legendary rock band is scheduled to preform in Tel Aviv in September 2012 • Group previously canceled a tour stop back in 2001 following a wave of terror attacks • Ticket prices will start at NIS 320.

Call it Tel Avivication: The Red Hot Chili Peppers, one of the most successful and beloved rock bands in recent history, will light up Tel Aviv's Hayarkon Park on Sept. 10, 2012, as part of a world tour to promote their tenth album.

"For years we've been receiving thousands of requests from Israeli fans. We are extremely excited now that the moment has finally arrived," the band said in an official statement.

The band had planned to visit Israel in 2001, but canceled their concert after a wave of terrorist attacks. More than 15,000 tickets were sold for their concert and had to be refunded.

The concert's producer, Shuki Weiss, said getting the rock stars to Israel this time was no easy feat. "I am convinced that Israeli audiences are fully aware of just how much work and effort went into bringing this amazing band to preform in Israel," he said.

"I am thrilled that the recording artists and the band's managers stood by their word to visit Israel, in light of their cancelled concert in 2001. This is one of the world's most successful and sought-after bands, and this is a very great achievement for Israeli music lovers."

For next summer's show, a limited amount of pre-order tickets will go on sale for NIS 320 ($86). Once the pre-order sale is over, prices will jump to NIS 390 ($105). VIP and gold tickets will be available for NIS 1,200 ($322) and 700 ($188), respectively.

"I am happy to announce that the band has shown a great deal of sensitivity with regard to ticket pricing and as such we will be able to offer pre-sale tickets at a specially discounted price, given the scope of a concert such as this, even in comparison with ticket prices for the band's European shows and also in relation to other concerts of a similar size that have taken place in Israel," Weiss said. He stressed that the show has been heavily invested in, and that the experience will prove to be beyond description.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers began their path to industry stardom in 1983 in Los Angeles. Their style consists of rock music mixed with funk, punk and hip hop. The band's current roster includes two of its founding members, vocalist Anthony Kiedis and bassist Michael "Flea" Balzary, as well drummer Chad Smith and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who joined in late 2009.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold more than 70 million albums worldwide, garnering seven Grammy awards. This year, their 10th studio album, "I'm with You," earned the Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album.
