Soldier killed, 3 injured as vehicle overturns near Gaza border

Sgt. Yuval Maneh, 20, of Paratroopers Brigade, is killed when vehicle on routine patrol overturns for reasons as yet unknown • Two soldiers seriously wounded, another sustains minor injuries • Investigation looking into whether vehicle was speeding.

A 20-year-old soldier from the Paratroopers Brigade was killed and three other soldiers were wounded on Saturday evening when a military vehicle in which they were traveling overturned during a routine patrol along the Israel-Gaza Strip border.

The incident took place near Kibbutz Kissufim in southern Israel. The reasons for the vehicle overturning have yet to be determined.

Sgt. Yuval Maneh, 20, sustained critical injuries, while two soldiers were seriously wounded and another soldier sustained minor injuries. All four were rushed to Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba, but doctors were unable to save Maneh's life.

GOC Southern Command Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir named Col. Avi Rahamim, commander of the 512th Division, to head an investigation into the incident.

According to a defense source, the investigation is looking into the possibility the vehicle was speeding and may have veered off course and overturned.

The Military Police has launched its own investigation into the incident, a routine measure.

Paratroopers Brigade forces have been deployed along the Israel-Gaza border in recent weeks as part of the brigade's periodic security operations.

Maneh was laid to rest on Sunday afternoon in the Kiryat Shaul Military Cemetery in Tel Aviv.
