A Muslim jihadist has urged his American followers to assassinate U.S. talk show host David Letterman after the comedian made a joke about a recently killed terrorist. Adam Raisman, an analyst for the SITE media monitoring service, told Entertainment Weekly that the death threat was made on the Shumukh al-Islam website, a hotbed of al-Qaida support. It is a clearing house for al-Qaida material. It gets the most al-Qaida supporters, he said. A man calling himself Umar al-Basrawi wrote that he was offended by Letterman's light-hearted take on a drone strike that killed senior al-Qaida member Ilyas Kashmiri, as well as Letterman's supposed mockery of assassinated al-Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden. The poster detailed of laundry list of accusations against Letterman. "He said that Kashmiri was killed in an airstrike in Pakistan (the news was not yet reported about the leading mujahideen, and Allah knows best)," the message said. "Then, he showed his evil nature and deep hatred for Islam and Muslims, and said that Ilyas Kashmiri was killed and he joined bin Laden. Then the despicable one put his hand on his neck and demonstrated the way of slaughter!! Meaning that the Americans slaughtered Mullah Ilyas Kashmiri (we ask Allah to protect him), just as they slaughtered before him Sheik Osama bin Laden (may Allah have mercy on him)." The poster demanded that someone kill Letterman, "just as Sayyid (may Allah release him) did with the Jew Kahane." He was referring to Sayyid Nosair al-Masri, who murdered Jewish Defense League founder Rabbi Meir Kahane in 1990. Is there not among you a Sayyid Nosair al-Masri (may Allah release him) to cut the tongue of this lowly Jew and shut it forever-" he wrote. "We ask Allah to paralyze his tongue and grant the sincere monotheists his neck. Oh Allah, amen." Letterman, incidentally, is not Jewish. Entertainers have been subject to similar threats in the past years. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of the satirical cartoon "South Park," received hundreds of death threats in 2010 after their show depicted an illustration of the Muslim prophet Muhammad, which is forbidden in Islam and is a severe offense. The episode was censored to avoid further outrage. An American jihadist received 25 years in jail after publishing the two creators' home addresses. A spokesman for Letterman on Wednesday declined to comment on the threat.
