Three people, including a doctor who has already been involved in a similar scandal, were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of serious crimes involving a human organ trafficking network. Israel Police officers on Tuesday raided and searched the homes of the three suspects and then arrested them. All three were due to be remanded on Wednesday. The raids followed an undercover investigation carried out in recent months that led to suspicions that the three had joined forces to establish a human organ trafficking network. According to investigators, the suspects would find impoverished potential "donors" and persuade them to sell one of their kidneys, as well as locating potential recipients who were able to pay for the organs and the transplants. Each recipient was reportedly charged some 500,000 shekels ($130,000). The police reported that the investigation has revealed evidence against all three suspects at every stage of the trafficking process, from recruitment through to the transplant procedure, as well as evidence of several cases currently in the recruitment process. The doctor involved had been arrested previously in a similar affair in which people in financial distress were tempted to sell a kidney.
