Three Israeli soldiers were wounded on Tuesday in a vehicular ramming attack carried out by a Palestinian terrorist at a checkpoint near Dolev in Samaria. Another soldier at the scene opened fire at the vehicle, killing the terrorist. One of the soldiers suffered serious wounds and was in life-threatening condition. He was transported by helicopter to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer. The other two soldiers were moderately wounded and transported by ambulance to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem. The checkpoint at which the attack took place is located at the entrance to the Palestinian village of Ein Arik, west of Ramallah. The Palestinian Authority Health Ministry identified the attacker as 36-year-old man Ahmed Reyad Shehada, a Qalandiya resident. Shehada's body was returned by Israel to his family for burial. Hamas praised Shehada and called for more terrorist attacks against Israel. Husam Badran, a Hamas spokesman in Qatar, said: "This was a legitimate response to the crimes of the Zionist occupation against the Palestinian people. Those who thought the intifada was over were wrong." Despite Tuesday's attack, the Defense Ministry has noted a marked decline in Palestinian terrorism since February. The number of attacks in April was similar the number of attacks in the months preceding the start of the Palestinian terrorist wave last fall.
All three soldiers were from the IDF's Kfir Brigade.
