Danish company ISIS offers sweet reward for help changing its name

Following deadly terrorist attacks in Paris, allegedly carried out by the Islamic State group also known as ISIS, Danish sweets manufacturer offers a years' worth of sugar-free treats for the best suggestion of a new name not associated with terrorism.

A small Danish company named ISIS is offering a year's worth of sugar-free treats as the prize in an online competition -- launched three days after the Paris attacks -- to find a new name.

ISIS is one acronym used for the Islamic State group, which claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Spokeswoman Line Krogh Ellesgaard said Tuesday the company wants to "get away from the unfortunate associations that our name can create."

The company's name is derived from the Danish word for ice and the corporate abbreviation for a partnership company, I/S. The company makes sugar-free ice cream, cookies, sweets and chocolate.

ISIS, founded in 1993, has long been considering rebranding itself, and last week's devastating terror attacks in Paris served to accelerate the process.

"The weekend’s actions stressed the importance of us working intensely to move away from the unfortunate associations that our name can create," ISIS wrote on its Facebook page.

Earlier this year, the British capital fund Isis Equity Partners changed its name to Livingbridge for similar reasons.
