Around 40 prominent legal experts from the U.S., Canada and Europe convened in New York this week to discuss ways to counter the Palestinian Authority's efforts to file anti-Israel motions with international courts worldwide, including the International Criminal Court in The Hague. "The courtroom is diplomacy's new battleground and you are Israel's legal Iron Dome," Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Danny Danon told the jurists. The conference was organized by the legal counsel's office for the Israeli mission to the U.N. "with the understanding that lawfare is diplomacy's new strategic and tactical weapon," attorney Amit Hoyman said. "The tactics proposed in the conference will become part of the Israeli mission's work plan, making them an integral part of Israel's diplomatic strategy," he said. A similar conference, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely, was held in Israel in July, with the aim of providing Israeli diplomats with a solid public diplomacy message to counter anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions efforts worldwide, as well as the Palestinians' attempts to prompt the ICC to launch a war crimes investigation against Israel over 2014's Operation Protective Edge in the Gaza Strip.
