Amid growing tensions between Israel and the Palestinians, Israel Hayom learned Thursday that a brother-in-law of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has undergone life-saving cardiac surgery at the Assuta Medical Center in Tel Aviv. The Palestinian leader's relative is still hospitalized and is under heavy guard. An Assuta spokesperson said the hospital could not confirm or deny the information "for reasons of medical confidentiality." This is not the first time a Palestinian official has undergone medical treatment at an Israeli hospital: Last August, Abbas' wife, Amina, underwent surgery in Assuta. The granddaughter of Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip Ismail Haniyeh also received medical treatment in Israel, and a senior Fatah official underwent a medical procedure at the Rabin Medical Center in Petach Tikva, in central Israel, in February.
