Court rules: Im Tirtzu organization is not fascist

Supreme Court overturns 2013 district court ruling terming Im Tirtzu "fascist" • "The court preserved our dignity and especially the dignity of [Theodor] Herzl, [Ze'ev] Jabotinsky, David Ben-Gurion and Menachem Begin," says Im Tirtzu founder Ronen Shoval.

Supreme Court justices Yitzchak Amit, Menachem Mazuz, Anat Baron on Wednesday overturned a 2013 Jerusalem District Court ruling that the right-wing organization Im Tirtzu had fascist characteristics.

The 2013 ruling followed a libel case launched by Im Tirtzu against the operators of a Facebook group titled "Im Tirtzu is a Fascist Movement."

Wednesday's ruling determined, "The court is not the appropriate arena for this wrestling match, and the legal process is not the cure for every ailment. In light of this, the sides have agreed to nullify the ruling made by the district court."

Im Tirtzu CEO Matan Peleg said of the decision: "The truth has come to light; the Supreme Court cleared our name."

The group's founder and its leader in 2013, Ronen Shoval, said, "The court preserved our dignity and especially the dignity of [Theodor] Herzl, [Ze'ev] Jabotinsky, David Ben-Gurion and Menachem Begin."
