MKs come face to face with 'polarizing' college entry exam

In honor of Student Day in the Knesset, MKs face series of similar questions to those appearing on the official test -- score an average of 73 out of 100 • "It was important to let the MKs taste what the youngsters go through," says MK Merav Ben-Ari.

Dozens of Knesset members on Wednesday received a small dose of what high school students across the country experience when taking the standardized college entry exam, otherwise known as the psychometric test.

The MKs faced a series of similar questions to those appearing on the official test and scored an average of 73 out of 100. Some requested a time extension while other vowed legislation to cancel the exam if they failed.

"It was important to let the MKs taste what the youngsters go through, and to see how the psychometric test deepens polarization in Israel," said MK Merav Ben-Ari (Kulanu), the driving force behind Student Day in the Knesset.

"If you do not have the means, you cannot take a preparatory course for the test and get accepted to academic institutions," said Ben-Ari.

Participating in the test, which was administered by the National Union of Israeli Students, were MKs from various parties, among them Yoav Kisch and Oren Hazan (Likud); Itzik Shmuli and Yossi Yonah (Zionist Union); Karin Elharrar and Yael German (Yesh Atid); Ben-Ari, Rachel Azaria and Roy Folkman (Kulanu); and Issawi Frej (Meretz).
