An Israel Defense Forces unit on a routine patrol along Route 12 near Ein Netafim came under automatic gunfire from the Egyptian side of the border on Sunday night, not far from the site of last month's multi-pronged terrorist attack in which eight Israelis were killed. The Israel-Egypt border has been especially tense since the days following the terror attack, when Israel Defense Forces soldiers carrying out a cross-border pursuit of the terrorists accidentally shot and killed six Egyptian policemen. During the shooting incident on Sunday, the IDF unit under fire reported seeing a vehicle fleeing the area but did not return fire. No soldiers were injured, and no damage to equipment was reported. According to Army Radio, the area near the shooting incident was closed to civilian traffic, but soldiers, armored vehicles, and helicopters were present. Security officials also closed Eilat's air space for several minutes following the incident as a precaution against possible further attacks. Egyptian rioters caught Meanwhile, 111 of the rioters responsible for attacking the Israeli Embassy in Cairo on Friday were arrested by Egyptian police on Sunday, and were reportedly set to stand trial in accordance with the former Mubarak regime's emergency regulations. "The attack on the Israeli embassy was a criminal and terrorist act that had no connection whatsoever to the January revolution. It was an embarrassment to Egypt," Egyptian Minister of Information Osama Heikal said.
