Iran responds to Muhammad cartoons with Holocaust denial art

Iran's House of Cartoon and Sarcheshmeh Cultural Complex will hold the second International Holocaust Cartoons Contest, awarding the best Holocaust denial cartoon a $12,000 prize • Contest is a response to Charlie Hebdo Muhammad cartoons.

An Iranian cultural center is planning to holding a contest for cartoons depicting the theme of Holocaust denial in response to illustrations of the Prophet Muhammad in the Charlie Hebdo satirical newspaper, according to a report in the Tehran Times.

Depicting Muhammad is considered blasphemous by Muslims.

Iran's House of Cartoon and Sarcheshmeh Cultural Complex will be holding the International Holocaust Cartoons Contest for the second time. The first was in 2006, after Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten angered Muslims by publishing several cartoons depicting Muhammad.

The first place winner will receive a cash prize of $12,000, and the winning cartoon will be put on display at the Palestine Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran.
