Jewish advocacy group ADL taps White House aide as new director

Anti-Defamation League names 43-year-old White House aide Jonathan Greenblatt to follow Abraham Foxman, who will retire next July after leading advocacy group for nearly 30 years • Greenblatt is the grandson of Holocaust survivor who fled Nazi Germany.

The Anti-Defamation League has named a successor to longtime national director Abraham Foxman.

The Jewish civil rights organization has chosen 43-year-old White House aide Jonathan Greenblatt to follow Foxman, who will be retiring next July after nearly three decades at the helm of the New York-based advocacy group.

The ADL announced the appointment Thursday at a meeting in Los Angeles.

Greenblatt has served on the White House Domestic Policy Council, helping oversee community service programs such as AmeriCorps. He is a cofounder of Ethos Brands, a premium bottled water company that helps support clean water programs worldwide.

He is the grandson of a Holocaust survivor who fled Nazi Germany. Greenblatt graduated from Tufts University and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He will take over as ADL national director in July.

"I am deeply honored to have been chosen to lead this vital organization as it begins its next century of service," Greenblatt said in a statement.

"Since its inception, ADL has had a tremendous impact on making America a more inclusive society for all people while defending the rights of Jews to freely practice their faith and be full participants in society. I am incredibly excited by the opportunity of building on those great successes."
