Finnish reporter in Gaza confirms rockets fired from hospital

Aishi Zidan tells Finland's main news website that rockets were fired from hospital parking lot at Israel • Zidan unhappy that Israel is disseminating her report, says she tries to provide the truth but doesn't want her work used as "propaganda."

A Finnish reporter based in Gaza has confirmed Israel's statements that Hamas is firing rockets from civilian areas, including Shifa Hospital.

Aishi Zidan reported on Finland's Helsingin Sanomat news website that "a rocket was fired from the back parking lot of the Shifa Hospital at 2 a.m."

"It happened right here, and was very loud. It's true that rockets are being fired from here by the Palestinians into Israel," she said.

Zidan was displeased with the how her report was used by the Israeli media and claimed that her words had been taken out of context.

On her Facebook page, the reporter wrote that she had arrived in Gaza after four children were killed in an airstrike on a Gaza beach.

"The IDF attacked them for no reason," she said.

Zidan said she had reported the rocket fire because "I am a professional journalist and try to report every event in the truest manner possible, and I condemn acts like that."

However, she objected to what she characterized as the misuse of her report. "That sentence [of mine] was used for propaganda purposes and as an excuse to attack civilians in the Gaza Strip. That's repulsive to me," she wrote.

Since Operation Protective Edge began, the international media has been quick to report the harm caused to the civilian population in Gaza but has rarely shown rockets being fired at Israel from Gaza. Hamas and other terror groups in Gaza have shot some 3,000 rockets and mortars at Israel since the operation began, causing severe damage to a number of Israeli homes and killing three civilians.
