The Israel Hayom newspaper has won a place on the list of super brands published by the Superbrands company. Israel Hayom was voted into the media category along with the satire television program "Eretz Nehederet" ("It's a Wonderful Country"), Channel 2, the Galgalatz radio station, the Walla and Mako Web portals, and Yedioth Ahronoth. The media brands left off this year's list include the "Kolbotek" consumer program, the Keshet television franchise, and Army Radio. The international organization Superbrands, which operates in over 70 countries, ran a contest in which Israelis named the local brands they felt deserved to be called "super." The list of winners included international and local names like Coca-Cola, Bamba (a popular peanut-flavored snack food), the Superpharm drugstore chain, the Shufersal and Rami Levy grocery chains, media brands such as the iPhone, the Waze navigation system for drivers, Google, and Facebook. Public institutions deemed "superbrands" by Israelis included the Mossad, the Israel Defense Forces, and the Shin Bet security agency. People named "superbrands" included President Shimon Peres, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, and singer Shlomo Artzi. The ADI organ donor association, the ZAKA rescue and recovery organization, and the Yad Sarah medical assistance organization were also voted superbrands. According to today's list, 107 brands have changed their status in Israel this past year: 53 new ones were added to the superbrand list, while 54 dropped off. Azorim, Anglo-Saxon, and Africa Israel all appeared on this year's list of superbrands in the real estate category. The Israeli clothing brands Fox and Castro made it into the fashion category alongside the internationally known H&M. Maccabi Tel Aviv was named a superbrand in soccer, taking its place alongside the Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team, which made the list last year and has kept its place. Superbrands prepared the poll by first assembling a list of brands active in the country. Then a panel of judges comprising 100 leading company general directors and deputy general directors of marketing made its picks. The market research firm MarketWatch then conducted a consumer poll among Israelis and used a national sample of 800 consumers to assemble the final list of superbrands.
