A delegation from the German Education Ministry was scheduled to visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in Jerusalem on Tuesday to develop Holocaust education in German schools and educational venues. The visit -- with 16 education ministers representing all of Germany's states -- would coincide with an education seminar at Yad Vashem's international school for teaching the Holocaust. The council was scheduled to tour the museum's historical wing, participate in a memorial service and experience the Yad Vashem Children's Memorial. Following the tour of the museum grounds, the delegation would attend educational workshops with the Yad Vashem German desk and work on the museum's German-language website. The group was also scheduled to attend a discussion with survivor Dr. Ehud Lev. There, delegates including the head of Germany's council for education ministers, Stephan Dorgerloh, would be able to discuss their impressions, along with Yad Vashem Director-General Avner Shalev and senior personnel from the museum's school for international education. On Wednesday, Education Minister Shay Piron was scheduled to host Shalev and Dorgeloh at his office in Jerusalem. Shalev said he hoped the council's visit would positively develop Holocaust education in Germany. "The purpose of this mission is to foster, together, ongoing and comprehensive collaborative efforts with all 16 German states in the field of Holocaust education and to encourage the exchange of information and ideas between Yad Vashem and pedagogical institutions, universities, Holocaust memorials, museums and organizations throughout all of Germany's states."
