Israels Keshet broadcasting company has announced that the Israeli reality series Shalosh (Three) has been sold to U.S. television network CBS, just one month after the show Homeland (adapted from the Israeli television series Hatufim) won the Golden Globe award for best drama television series. The deal was clinched at a meeting between CBS executives, led by CBS Entertainment President Nina Tessler, and attended by senior Keshet executives. The deal was brokered by Rick Rosen, a partner and head of the television department at WME, Keshets talent agency in the United States. The U.S. version of Shalosh will be jointly produced by Keshet, Magical Elves, a leading production company, and director, producer and screenwriter Chris Columbus, who has directed many successful feature films. Ami Glam, director of the entertainment and reality television division at Keshet set out last week for a series of initial meetings with the U.S. production team and is set to travel to the U.S. to represent Keshet during the early stages of production. Shalosh was first broadcast in October 2011 and stars three young women -- Sarit Gomez, Kim Busi and Maya Rubin -- as they look for a life partner. The series follows their exploits as they date several men and ultimately decide, or not, to settle on one. The U.S. incarnation of "Shalosh" is expected to premiere in the summer of 2012. In Israel, production on the second season is set to begin soon.
The series grabbed a number of headlines last month when one of the shows spurned mail suitors, Gilad Friedlansky, committed suicide. Friedlandsky had said he had fallen in love with one of the women on the show, and was ultimately rejected.
