In an interview with France 2 TV on Thursday, France's far-right National Front party leader and presidential candidate Marine Le Pen said that if elected she would ban dual citizenship with non-EU member states. Asked specifically whether her immigration program would affect French Jews with dual Israeli citizenship, the far-right politician said it would. "Israel is not a European Union member and does not identify as such," she said. The first round of the French presidential election is scheduled for April 23. However, Le Pen said she would make an exception for dual Russian citizens. Russia, she said, had a place in what she called "a Europe of nations." In an interview with Israel's Channel 2 News last Friday, Le Pen said that if elected she would ban the wearing of kippot in public, as part of a "joint struggle" in the fight against radical Islam. She said she realized the ban would be "asking a lot."
