Children comprise 10.8% of fatalities from car accidents in Israel, more than triple the international average of 3.2%, the Or Yarok Association for Safer Driving in Israel announced in a report released ahead of Universal Children's Day, marked Sunday, when Israel will also launch its annual Road Safety Week. The Or Yarok report summed up the findings from a survey by the International Traffic Safety Data and Analysis Group, which covered the fatality rates of children in car accidents from 28 countries. The theme of this year's Road Safety Week is "A Safe Family on the Road," and it is dedicated to promoting safe family behavior on the roads. A study of 500 Israeli families conducted by the Israel National Road Safety Authority found that safe behavior by parents is linked to safe behavior on the part of children.
