The Right is outraged by the decision to nominate Dr. Youssef Shahada, a supporter of the Islamic Movement in Israel, as chairman of the Education Ministry's new professional committee. "I cannot accept that there is even a possibility that Education Minister Naftali Bennett, who is from the national [religious] camp, would allow such a move to take shape," said MK David Amsalem (Likud). "I am sure that he knows more than a few Israeli-Arabs who could fill this position and whose participation as members in the committee would honor law-abiding Arab and Jewish citizens of Israel who hold the country dear to their hearts." MK Nava Boker (Likud) said: "The state has already outlawed the [Islamic Movement's] northern branch, and we must not let it become legal again or let it return through the back door. And we certainly must not gamble on the education of our children, who may have a terrorist group's operations presented to them as legitimate. "Shahada's statement that he 'joined the committee to influence from within' raises questions about his understanding of the essence of democracy and the ban on conflict of interests."
