A female soldier was awarded a citation by GOC Southern Command Maj. Gen. Sami Turgeman at a ceremony at IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv on Tuesday. The citation was given in recognition of Capt. Or Ben-Yehuda's role in thwarting a drug smuggling attempt on Israel's border with Egypt in October 2014. Ben-Yehuda was a company commander in the Caracal Battalion at the time. During the incident, drug smugglers from the Sinai Peninsula opened fire on IDF troops. Ben-Yehuda and one other soldier were wounded. "With her actions, Capt. Or Ben-Yehuda demonstrated initiative, composure, determination and devotion to mission, while risking her life," the IDF said. Ben-Yehuda expressed appreciation on Tuesday for the soldiers she commanded during the incident, saying, "The citation I received today belongs to my fighters."
