The Shin Bet has decided to place a security detail around Housing and Construction Minister Uri Ariel (Habayit Hayehudi), in light of threats made against him for his activity on the Temple Mount. The decision was made following a situation assessment by the Shin Bet's Personal Protection Unit, police advisories and the recent attempt made on Temple Mount activist Yehuda Glick's life. The Shin Bet last year stopped providing security details to ministers, as a cost-saving measure. It was decided that only special situations such as high-profile visits, new threats and developing situations would warrant bodyguards. Seven high-profile government officials still get security details: the prime minister, president, Supreme Court chief justice, foreign and defense ministers, Knesset speaker and opposition leader. "Apparently this is the price to pay in the Middle East for standing on one's principles of Zionism," Ariel said. "The growing support for settlement and settler parties shows that the principles we insist on stand the test of results."
