The first issue of Israel Hayom appeared on July 30, 2007, and the paper has since been published five days a week, Sunday through Thursday. From November 20, 2009, Israel Hayom is also publishing a weekend edition, distributed on Fridays, which includes three major sections: news, political supplement and an arts and lifestyle magazine. The newspaper is distributed throughout the country in residences, workplaces, public locations and public transportation.
Israel Hayom was founded in the belief that the Israeli public deserves better, more balanced and more accurate journalism. Journalism which speaks – not shouts. Journalism of a different kind. And free of charge.
The newspaper's credibility, and the reputation we have enjoyed from our first issue, have drawn to the paper a range of talented writers, who could easily have chosen any other media outlet, yet preferred to write with us. Among the writing staff are leading reporters, opinion columnists, and media people, rich in experience in journalism, talented in writing and in communicating information in a compelling and thought-provoking manner, and whose professional ethics are beyond reproach.
In the space of this short period of time, we have sparked great curiosity among both readers and competitors, and have become a part of the densely packed daily routine of hundreds of thousands of Israeli men and women.
We at Israel Hayom are proud to set clear and precise standards for media coverage: :
· Trustworthiness – We were the first news media outlet to establish a fact-checking department. We check, in advance, every fact and detail that we publish.
· Transparency – We appointed an ombudsman, an experienced veteran journalist, available to the public, who without fear or trepidation examines every complaint, comment and criticism.
· Full Disclosure - We will not assist "spin," nor will we quote anonymous sources without drawing the attention of our readers to the sources' reliability.
· Openness - We will make available to the reader an open line for comments, criticism and suggestions for improvement. In contrast to our competitors, we will not closet ourselves in an ivory tower, and will not hunker down behind empty claims.
· Fairness - If, despite all this, we err, we will own up. By contrast to other news media outlets, we will not sweep our mistakes under the rug, and we will print a corrections section in a prominent and proper place.
